How to Remove Weebly Footer from Weebly site

If you have put together a Weebly site and are looking to remove the footer message “Create a free website with weebly”, there are two ways of doing it. For paid users, it is straight forward. But Free users need to edit the style sheet (CSS). Here we describe both the methods.

For paid (pro) Weebly users

For Weebly Pro users, it is very straight forward. Click on the footer where the Weebly link is. In the top right corner of the box that surrounds, click the red “x” delete mark. And you are done.

For Free (regular) Weebly users

If the theme you choose provides a #footer in the style sheet, you may be able to hide the footer. Take a look at how it is done for kanatahomes.weebly.com which is a demo site for real estate agents built from a free weebly account. If you are comfortable editing the style sheet, all you need to do is add a single line visibility:hidden; to the #footer. To edit the style sheet, go to CSS via “Design” tab –> “Edit HTML/CSS” –> CSS.   To edit CSS, Click on Design, then select Edit HTML/CSS   Click on main-style.css, which is the style sheet that need to be edited. Once in the CSS, find #footer and add a line

visibility:hidden;

You may also try

visibility:none;
The #footer section in Weebly theme style sheet

Add the line visibility:hidden;

Remember that once your CSS is modified you need to save it as your custom theme. If you upgrade to pro account later on, remember to remove this line or, select the original theme. Pro account will let you remove/customize your own footer which is key to Search Engine Optimization (SEO).

    • Don't know what is going on with your footer. Your footer is at the top. That's weird. You probably are using a custom theme or have the html jumbled up.

  3. Hello,

    One of my websites (http://www.Microcar-World) I am trying to make 100% myself without using the weebly widgets. My main site uses the weebly widgets, but I want to learn how to code html and CSS.

    I removed all of the CSS and html and put my stuff down. All I left in CSS was the #footer. I added visibility:hidden; and it still doesnt work…

    Site is very basic for now, since I only just started learning.

  5. Would they delete your site if they find out that you are doing this??

    • No. There is nothing in Terms Of Service dictating that the footer message should be retained. You are free to design the css and index files any way you want. No conditions.

  8. Hi,
    First of all, let me tell you I found your blog immensely helpful and it is a great source to make our weebly sites better with your excellent tips. I thank you for posting out all the information out here for free.

    The tip you posted in this post is great and a good learning. However, I feel bad implementing it because it is the bread and butter of this excellent website builder, weebly, that they give us out for free. So, I am not implementing it. Second, there is a chance that Weebly might delete our site. After reading your follow-up reply to a comment that it is not mentioned in the terms of service, I looked up and found the below 2 points:
    "
    (f) upload, post or otherwise transmit any Content that infringes any patent, trademark, trade secret, copyright, rights of privacy or publicity, or other proprietary rights of any party;
    "

    This point has the potential to be used against the user as by removing the footer, we are infringing on their rights. Though the term "delete" or "remove" is not mentioned.

    I am no legal expert and I love your site. I am just trying to help ensure that this wonderful website builder continues to make our lives easier.

    • Infringement is different from Author Attribution or Service Attribution. The section your referred from TOS does not hold against it. What really need to be in Terms Of Service is like what Yola added to their Terms of service "You may not falsify or delete any author attributions". I have contacted Weebly regarding this specific aspect and there is no clear answer from them yet.

    • Thank you Raju for the clarification. I agree and please do let us all know weebly's response.

      Keep posting the excellent tips!
