How to Backup a Weebly site

Backup your Weebly Site whenever you publish significant changes.

You can take a full back up of your Weebly website and save it to your local machine any time you want.quote openBackup will only let you save a copy of your site. You can not restore a previouquote closesly saved backup.

Weebly maintains a record of your three latest backups, so you can download them any time. It is ideal to save them onto your local machine so you have access to all your previous backups.

There are several reasons why you may want to backup :

  • Weebly has no version control. Weebly maintains only the latest information for your site. So, if you ever want to compare with what you had three months ago, or if you want to use the content you had in past, our local copy is the only choice.
  • If you need to migrate your site to a different provider, archive (backup) is the only choice.
  • When disaster strikes, your archive comes to the rescue. Always download a local copy. If you are ever locked out of your account, your local copy is all you have.

It is always recommended to download and save your backup locally. Better yet, create an account with Dropbox.com. You can create local Dropbox folder , which automatically syncs with your Dropbox account. Just have the archives download to your Dropbox folder.

If you are serving clients, you should be able to share the backups easily with your clients using Dropbox. You can also use Box.com which gives you 5GB of Free space.

  1. But how do you restore your site from the zip archive?

  2. How can I get a copy of my blog posts backed up? I know I don't personally have access to the Weebly database and I understand, but are there historical cases to point to of support backing up blog posts for you?

    • I don’t think Weebly can/will provide you with copy of blog posts. Weebly should be backing up every thing, and posts as a part of it. I have no information to confirm if they have restored blog posts in the past or not. [Side note: If Blogs are so important for you, Weebly is a wrong choice]

  3. OK. I got an archive, but the site, reinstalled “as is” on another server, does not work : The link to my page Header icon is broken, and the blog does not work.
I asked support and they just said “Teese are known errors”. Fine, but when will they be fixed ?

    • Blogs and Forums does not work for Archival. We can’t speak for Weebly of when they will be able to address it. But for people with strong blogging needs, we suggest using some other blogging platform and integrate it with Weebly so that when the time for migration comes, one does not loose the Blog.

    • Totally agree about Blog and Forums.
But how long will we have to wait for this silly bug on Header Logo image to be fixed ?

    • If you encapsulate the header image div with “a href ….” you should be able to add link to the header image on your new site.

  4. I need to know how to restore my Weebly archive file in case it goes down.

    • You can not restore it. It is a backup of final html files, so that you can host it some where else, if need be. The backup can not be used to restore the site in the weebly editor.

  5. My issue is somewhat related. While editing my site, somehow the theme was changed. All my content is still there but with a different theme. I clicked the “revert” button and the theme did change but not back to what I had, to something entirely different. I did not click the publish button so as of now, my site still looks like it’s supposed to but, I can’t make any edits because as soon as I hit publish I’m going to lose my current theme. Is there a way to cancel the edits from the editing page? I did search through the list of themes but can’t find the one I had – apparently, they’ve discontinued it. Can anyone help? Thanks.

    • There was an option to revert to original theme. The theme you are using is “Sleek” theme. Weebly seems to have modified it from its original version. Check with Weebly support and see if they can send you the old one. If Weebly can’t help you with it, send me a mail using the Feedback form here. I will do some thing.

  8. IS WEEBLY IN TROUBLE??? IT IS NOT WORKING TODAY.

I can’t save my changed header and can’t log out. I have tried this on 2 others sites with the same result.

    Is Weebly having troubles?

It must be as everything else here is working fine.

WHY DOES WEEBLY NOW CHARGE FOR EMAILS AND BEFORE IT DID NOT. WHY DID WEEBLY PUT THE CHARGES ON AND TELL NO-ONE ABOUT IT.

    • It should be resolved now. They had issues yesterday.

  9. As a pro-account holder, does weebly backup my site in case of problems and can they upload the backup?

I know I can archive in a zip file, however, I’m more concerned about restoring the site.

    thanks

    • You can only backup. Can’t restore.

  10. You can use Inspyder Web2Disk to make a complete backup (including blog entries) to your computer. You can setup a scheduled backup.

The backups are a complete working copy of your website (Weebly’s archives do not include everything required).

  11. Inspyder Web2Disk looks great but works only with Windows. Is there a similar software for Mac?
